About Sol

The Sol Group is a leading petroleum company, supplying fuels, lubricants, bitumen and LPG through an extensive service station network. Sol also has primary interests in marine, aviation and commercial operations across the Caribbean.

The Sol Group was formed through a series of successful acquisitions. The journey began in February 2005 when The Group was created through the acquisition of Shell’s business in the Eastern Caribbean, Guyana, Suriname and Belize. Sol later acquired Shell’s business in Puerto Rico in 2006 and continued on a path of continuous growth through its further purchased of Exxon’s assets in Suriname and Guyana in 2007. Just three months later, Sol also purchased Exxon’s assets in the Republic of Haiti, adding yet another diverse market to its existing portfolio. Sol’s innovative approach to the industry speaks for itself. Since its inception, Sol has demonstrated its ability to aggressively grow its business by optimizing the output from its asset base and by providing creative energy solutions to its customers in all markets across the region.

In September 2009, Sol made a confident but very characteristic move and acquired Shell’s Aviation business in the Eastern Caribbean. This move cemented Sol’s presence as an energy leader in the Caribbean and as a vital player in the region’s economy. 2009 led to another cornerstone investment in Sol’s portfolio. In November of that year, Sol signed a sales agreement to acquire Shell’s retail, commercial and aviation businesses in the Dominican Republic, signaling yet another important pillar in Sol’s journey of success.

On May 13, 2011, Sol acquired Shell’s business in Dominican Republic, adding the 17th pillar to Sol’s portfolio across the region.

Sol uses the Shell brand under license across the majority of its service station network, and acts as the sole distributor of Shell's fuels and lubricants. This is fully backed by Shell's world-class technical expertise. However in 2009, Sol launched its first Sol branded site in Haiti. This only served as a launchpad; the Sol brand since its first introduction has been installed across several retail, aviation and commercial sites across the Caribbean.

In total, Sol operates across 17 markets, within the Eastern Caribbean, South and Central America. This complex business is managed through competent local managers and is fully supported by the company’s corporate office located in Barbados.
